At 35, Ed Sheeran has stopped trying to be the biggest pop star in the world. He already was. Now he’s trying to be the most present dad in Suffolk, while still selling out 26 stadiums across North America.
It’s a balancing act that defines his life in 2026.
Private life: Cherry, Lyra, Jupiter, and a health scare
Sheeran married Cherry Seaborn in a secret ceremony in early 2019, after reconnecting in 2015. They first met as 11-year-olds at Thomas Mills High School in Framlingham. Cherry, a Durham University science graduate and former US college field hockey player, now works in sustainability as a Technology and Digital Risk Manager at Deloitte.
The couple fiercely guards their privacy and have two daughters: Lyra Antarctica Seaborn Sheeran, born August 2020, and Jupiter, born May 19, 2022.
Their second pregnancy was traumatic. Cherry was diagnosed with a tumor at six months pregnant that doctors could not operate on until after birth. Sheeran later called it “f—ing scary” and shared in his 2023 Disney+ documentary that the experience, combined with the death of his best friend Jamal Edwards, pushed him into his darkest writing period. Cherry underwent surgery post-birth and is now recovering well.
They live on the sprawling “Sheeranville” estate in Suffolk, keep chickens, run a pub (The Lancaster Lock), and rarely do red carpets together. In a 2024 podcast, Ed said he was open to more children: “I feel like we were so lucky to have one… I would obviously love more.”
Career: from busking to ‘Play’
Born in Halifax in 1991, Sheeran has sold over 200 million records worldwide. Breakthrough came with ‘+’ (2011) and ‘The A Team’, followed by Grammy-winning ‘Thinking Out Loud’ and the global phenomenon ‘÷’ (2017), which gave us ‘Shape of You’ and ‘Perfect’.

‘Play’ debuted at No.1 in the UK, giving Sheeran his ninth UK chart-topper, matching Bob Dylan and Take That on the all-time list, and won Album of the Year at Spain’s Los 40 Music Awards. Spotify even put him on FC Barcelona’s El Clásico jersey — the first male solo pop artist to get the honor.
Critics called it lighter, funnier, and deliberately less American-market focused.
Gossip in 2026: no scandals, just pubs and paddleboards
Sheeran is famously gossip-proof. Tabloids in 2025 tried to link him to a “secret Nashville writing retreat” with Taylor Swift, but both laughed it off on Instagram Live. His biggest headline this year was being spotted paddleboarding on the River Deben with his daughters in matching life jackets.
He quit drinking heavily in 2022, talks openly about therapy, and still plays surprise pub gigs in Ipswich for £5 at the door. No feuds, no fashion-week drama — his brand is normalcy.
On tour: The LOOP Tour 2026
Sheeran is back on the road with the ‘LOOP Tour’, his first full stadium run since the Mathematics Tour.

The Bocelli friendship: from fanboy to family
Sheeran’s most unexpected musical brotherhood is with Italian tenor Andrea Bocelli, 33 years his senior.
It began in 2017 when Sheeran’s brother Matthew suggested an orchestral version of ‘Perfect’. Ed flew to Bocelli’s home in Tuscany in October 2017 and recorded ‘Perfect Symphony’, with Bocelli singing the second verse in Italian. The duet helped keep ‘Perfect’ at UK No.1 through Christmas and has over a billion streams.
They performed it live for the first time at Wembley Stadium on June 14, 2018, in front of 80,000 people — Sheeran later called it “the most nervous I’ve ever been.”
The bond deepened on Bocelli’s 2018 album ‘Sì’. Sheeran co-wrote ‘Amo Soltanto Te’ with Tiziano Ferro, a tender ballad Bocelli dedicated to his wife Veronica. The Verona-filmed video features child actors playing young Ed and Andrea, and has surpassed 180 million views.
Since then, it’s become a family friendship. Bocelli invited the Sheerans to his Teatro del Silenzio concert in Lajatico in 2023, where Lyra reportedly fell asleep on Bocelli’s piano bench. They exchange voice notes at Christmas — Bocelli in operatic Italian, Sheeran in Suffolk-accented English — and Ed has said Bocelli is “like a musical dad, he tells me to protect my voice and my family first.”
In interviews, Bocelli calls Sheeran “a humble genius who writes like Schubert with a loop pedal.” Sheeran calls Bocelli “proof that a song can live in two worlds at once.”
In 2026, with Sheeran touring stadiums and Bocelli preparing his 30th-anniversary shows, insiders say another collaboration is likely — possibly a lullaby for their children.
