In 2026, it sells leather goods the same way: by hand, slowly, and only to people it chooses. The results defy the luxury slowdown. 2024: revenue €15.17 billion, up 15% at constant exchange rates, net profit €4.6 billion. 2025: revenue passed €16 billion — up 5.5% at constant rates — with recurring operating income of €6.57 billion and a 41% operating margin, and net profit of €4.52 billion. In Q4 alone, sales rose 9.8%, driven by the US and Japan, while the leather division grew 14.6% organically. While LVMH fell 5% in 2025, Hermès grew. In early 2025, Hermès overtook LVMH briefly as the world’s most valuable luxury company by market cap. THE BUSINESS: SCARCITY BY DESIGN Family-controlled: still 66% owned by descendants of Thierry Hermès. CEO Axel Dumas (sixth generation). No factories: 60+ ateliers in France, each artisan trains 18 months to stitch one Birkin. Production: ∼12,000 Birkins a year. Demand: ∼300,000 requests. Price strategy: raises prices 6-7% annually — less than Chanel, more than inflation. A Birkin 25 Togo went from €8,050 in 2019 to €11,200 in 2025. Q1 2024 showed the model: €3.8 billion revenue, up 17%, with Leather Goods up 20% and Ready-to-Wear up 16%. Q3 2024: €11.2 billion for nine months, up 14%, despite China slowdown. ICONS: THE WAITLIST ECONOMY Birkin (€11,200-€150,000): named after Jane Birkin in 1984. Waitlist: 18-24 months, unless you are a top client. Secondary market premium still up to 16% above retail in 2024, even as other brands’ resale collapsed.
